My struggle to lose weight began in early childhood. I was an active child, but I was overweight. But I had really bad habits, like a lot of fried foods, processed foods, sweet drinks. I also struggled with emotional eating. In the mid-20s I weighed 310 pounds.

I was sweating, losing my breath trying to clean my house, brushing my teeth, or working with my caregivers. I was severely depressed because of the weight, like the toxic relationships I was involved in. I also drank alcohol every day, ate fatty, fatty foods.

My turning point came a day after my home health care client commented on how much I should eat. I will never forget it. There were only two of us, but I was completely ashamed. At that moment, I decided to make changes. I was just uncomfortable with my own skin և unhappy.

At the very beginning of losing weight, I reduced the portions I ate.

If I ate pizza, I would have three pieces instead of the whole pie. For me, it was a step in the right direction to start reducing my consumption. And I walked every day.

I was not disciplined to cut everything completely. I knew that deprivation would not work for me. When I saw the results with the section control, I had to change the way I cooked my food. So I cut out the fried food. I started baking a lot of dishes like french fries. And I went for lean protein. I ate more healthy food, snacks, and seeing progress increased my motivation. Today I focus on lean meats, good carbs, minimal processed foods և lots of fruits, vegetables և water. I rarely drink alcohol, which is a huge deal because I used to drink it every day for so long.

Here is what I eat during the day.

  • Breakfast. Oats cut from steel with blueberries, honey and walnuts.
  • Lunch: Salmon, rice and broccoli. Or steak with onions and mushrooms. I worked in a steakhouse on a weight loss trip, so it was very easy to eat grilled lean meats and vegetables every day. The work has helped me a lot in my weight loss.
  • Snacks: Sweet potatoes with powdered cinnamon, hummus with vegetables or vegetables և / or fruits.
  • Supper: Mostly steak or salmon with baked potatoes, Greek yogurt (for sour cream), lots of green onions: cheese. I love cheese, so I still include it.

    Doing any other exercise was just too much on my joints. I tried the Curves gym, but once I went, I was very embarrassed, so I paid for the membership before losing weight, although I eventually canceled it. I focused on walking daily, starting with a 45-minute walk a day. Some days I went for a walk in the morning and in the evening. The weight came out only from walking.

    I got pregnant, but I still wanted to focus on my baby առողջ’s health. I walked almost every day of my pregnancy. People joked that I would have a baby on the nature trail I walked every day.

    I had a baby in 2011, and shortly after that I went to the gym and started weightlifting again. I was a growing athlete, so I was always out and about in the overcrowded room for air conditioning. My body composition really started to change when I combined resistance training with my love of hiking.     In 2019, I received salmonella from Thanksgiving dinner, which turned into sepsis, a life-threatening condition. It almost killed me և I was in the intensive care unit for 28 days. Sepsis changed my body, mind, spirit, focused on my health, or brought about struggles that continue to this day. I am currently lifting weights every day, although I still have joint pain and other complications from sepsis.

    These three changes have made the biggest difference in my weight loss results.

    1. I put my health first. I finally realized that my physical, mental, and emotional health was invaluable. My weight training has taught me never to be afraid to put myself first, to take care of myself before anyone or anything.
    2. I was active every day. I sat for so long, but once I was forced to be active for at least 30 minutes every day, it just got easier and easier over time. Now I would not dare to miss a day of training or activity if my body does not need rest.
    3. I changed my relationship with food. The food is so delicious,: I absolutely love it, but it’s fuel for your body. Sounds simple, but for someone like me who always ate without considering the health benefits, it really changed the game. I have learned to appreciate food և how it feels.
