I have always struggled with body image. I grew up with two sisters whom I constantly compared to myself. I was the detachment leader from kindergarten to high school. This is the sport where the image is one of the strongest aspects, it was easy to compare myself to other girls, not to be happy when I looked in the mirror.

I would describe myself as growing medium. I was really tall, և every time I went to the doctor, I was told that I was medically “overweight” for my age group. When I was in high school, I never learned to eat healthy. I am from an Italian ույն Greek family և we ate very tasty food. I would come home after school, eat a lot, and then feel bad about it. For years, I had an unhealthy relationship with food, where I ate emotionally, which led to overeating.

I was the heaviest I ever weighed when I went to college.

Leaving home was a difficult adjustment for me և I ate emotionally until one day I could not even look in the mirror. I hated going out with friends because no clothes I liked fit me right. I am a very distant person, but then my whole personality changed, I became very shy and reserved. I, too, was simply unfriendly to myself. I stopped taking care of myself. At 20, I was 211 pounds.

Although I was never diagnosed with hypertension, my blood pressure was extremely high. My doctor supervised it for years. I also developed an acid reflex և I would get it any time I ate terrible Heartburn These questions were a concern in my daily life.

My turning point was the fact that I was so unhappy.

I did not feel comfortable in my own skin. So, in January 2020, at the age of 20, I passed the New Year’s resolution (which was stuck this time) about finally putting myself first and changing my health habits.

When I started my health և health journey, I did not cut any food groups.

I just started to change my bad eating habits for the better. I started eating less and cooking more at home. I started eating vegetables at every meal. I started eating healthier արար nutritious foods եցի I started cutting out processed, high fat և high sugar foods. I increased my water intake և distributing my food properly while still enjoying the foods I like in moderation.

I do not believe that any food is “good” or “bad”. Food is fuel. We need it to survive. But we must be able to enjoy it at the same time. Healthy eating does not have to be boring. I started to find healthier alternatives to my favorite foods. For me, eating healthy, nutritious foods, but still enjoying them in moderation, is sustainable. Works. I have never considered my weight loss journey a “diet”. I considered it a lifestyle change. Because lifestyle changes are permanent and diets are temporary.

Here is what I eat during the day.

  • Breakfast. Avocado toast on sourdough bread – “everything but bailey spice” with red pepper flakes and egg next to Beachbody’s Café Latte Shakeology. Or a cup of oatmeal, bananas with fresh vegetables, peanut butter, cocoa hooks, chia seeds.
  • Lunch: A kind of power cup. For the base: rice և green, usually spinach or cabbage. Middle layer. Highly cooked and seasoned vegetables such as zucchini, sweet potatoes, pumpkin, onions and tomatoes. Top layer. Some proteins, such as chicken, salmon or roasted turkey. Top with some sauce or spices. I love the Green Goddess costume from Trader Joe’s.
  • Snacks: My absolute favorite snack right now is the GoMacro Oatmeal Chocolate Chip protein bar. I also like to eat fresh fruits like mangoes, watermelons, grapes, cherries or strawberries. I love my Shakeology from Beachbody.
  • Supper: Choice: protein in vegetables. I’m obsessed with stuffed vegetables. For example, stuffed pumpkin spaghetti, sweet potatoes or eggplant. Stuffed vegetables are my dinner because you can change them as you like, և your lunch is full և it feels good.
  • Dessert: Trader’s non-dairy chocolate coconut milk ice cream. Or strawberries with chocolate hummus, which tastes like chocolate frostbite. I love making homemade desserts like healthier almond flour cookies, dark chocolate peanut butter cups (I keep them in my freezer) or frozen Greek yogurt crumbs.

    At the beginning of my weight loss journey in January 2020, I focused exclusively on cardio.

    I went to the gym for an hour a few days a week, cycling, jogging, or climbing stairs. I did this for a while, but I was disappointed in myself because I do not find this kind of heart-fun fun. When quarantine began in March 2020, my family agreed to order a Peloton bike, and I fell in love with these exercises. I would take homework lessons every day.

    I walked a lot during quarantine.

    Walking is a great way to start if you are new to exercise. Only in the fall of 2020 did I start lifting weights. I started the light և went forward following the ess I strength exercises of Sims (my favorite Peloton instructor). I did these strength exercises from the fall of 2020 to March 2021. Then I was introduced to Beachbody.

    I love these programs because they make you everyday և create a real schedule for you. For example, Monday is the day of the legs, Tuesday is the back of the biceps, Wednesday is the day of trousers, and so on. Although I love peloton training, it is easy to wake up and say I will not train today because you have no one or anything to hold you accountable. But with Beachbody, you have a certain routine, a very supportive, motivating community around you, and you feel the need to follow the program schedule to stay on track.

    So for me, a week of regular exercise is five days a week with a mix of strength training և (much shorter) cardio. I learned that you do not need to spend an hour and a half in the gym to see results. The easiest way to get rid of yourself is to work too hard on yourself. I spend 25-40 minutes a day on these exercises.

    These three changes have made the biggest difference in my weight loss results.

    1. I started drinking a lot of water. Before embarking on my weight loss journey, I probably drank two or three bottles of water a day on sugar and other beverages that were not good for me. As I began to move my body more և to eat healthier foods, my body craved water, I started drinking about 2 liters a day. It craves any bad food cravings and satisfies you throughout the day.
    2. I moved my body three to five times a week. After graduating from school and playing sports, I completely gave up exercise. It is not realistic to go “everything” when starting to lose weight. The key to success is simple change. Approaching the exercises this way helped me stay consistent so I could stick to this lifestyle change.
    3. I cut off the negative self-talk. This is the key to my success. When you decide to make a change for yourself, you have to be kind and patient. We ourselves are our biggest critics, but that certainly changes when you lose weight and undergo drastic life changes. You start to love yourself more, you realize that you are really the only thing that keeps you from a happier, healthier life. Be kind: Be your own biggest supporter.

        I lost 75 pounds between January 2020 and November 2020.

        Since then, I have maintained that weight loss by continuing to exercise daily and eat healthily. My life has changed completely since the beginning of the weight loss journey. I have developed a passion for food, health ության health, I have created my own health platform on social media to encourage and inspire others. I became a Beachbody coach where I can now help other people. And I got a passion for cooking.

        I never thought I would be able to do what I have with this journey. When you make such a drastic change, you will begin to realize all that you have kept with you. I’m the most insecure I’ve ever been, I finally love myself enough to put myself first.
