Weight loss will be followed by fatigue and constant tiredness.
For many, weight loss surgery, otherwise known as bariatric surgery, can be a great way to lose weight and help them build a better quality of life. The best part is that candidates do not even have to leave Oxford, Mississippi to have surgery.
The most common bariatric surgery
The most common form of bariatric surgery currently used is called a gastrectomy. T-gastrectomy is a procedure that limits the amount of food removed by removing 75-80% of the stomach.
“So instead of this big pond there, now the stomach is the size of a banana. “More likely, the part of the stomach that is removed during surgery produces the chemical hormone ghrelin,” said Dr. Walker Bjars, who specializes in bariatric general surgery at the Oxford Bariatric Clinic. Ghrelin is a hormone that prepares the body for food. This is what causes the body to feel hungry.
Decide who is a candidate for bariatric surgery
Candidates for this surgery are determined by their BMI or body mass index. BMI is a person’s height և weight ratio, which determines an individual’s body fat. A BMI of 25 to 29.9 indicates that an individual is overweight. A BMI of 30 or higher indicates that a person is obese.
Surgery usually takes 45 minutes to an hour; most patients stand up and walk at the end of the day after surgery.
The operation can be performed laparoscopically or robotically. Both types of surgery are minimally invasive; they help with short surgery and recovery time. Bayars uses the Da Vinci robotic surgical system to perform a gastrectomy, which has performed more than 1,000 surgeries.
“Da Vinci is a huge help to me because it helps us operate properly with each successful intervention,” Byars said.
Life after weight loss surgery
Patients are dieted immediately after surgery. Most patients return to work within two weeks of surgery, depending on their field of work. The next part that comes after surgery recovery is a one-year program, during which patients meet with doctors: staff to make sure they are right.
This one-year intensive program is what sets Mkrtich apart from other weight loss programs. “It is different from what we do, for example, if you remove the gallbladder, you go in and have surgery, then we see you after the operation and send you on the road. “We go through this և we see patients for a whole year, sometimes longer,: we can see how patients change,” Byars said.
The success rate of the Ccess program is over 95%, and the average weight loss rate per year is ֆ 100.
Patients need to stick to lifestyle changes to eat healthier, to exercise, to make the program work, and to meet regularly with nutritionists and staff to make sure they are on the right track. The program also offers support groups where patients can share their experiences with other patients և learn և help each other.
“The whole purpose of Goal surgery is not to give the patient a certain weight, but to get the patient to a place where they live happier, healthier and longer,” Byars said.
